Former Flying Eagles coach, James Peters, has said the national Under-23 team can defeat hosts Senegal on Wednesday to book a place in the final of the CAF Under-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal if they show enough determination in the match.sport

Nigeria qualified along with Algeria for the semi-finals from Group B with both on five points, Algeria had a superior goal difference to top the group and face South Africa.

Senegal won all their matches to top Group A with nine points and are the only side in the tournament not to have played a draw or lost a match.

Peters, who spoke with our correspondent, urged the national team to improve their performance against Senegal.

The former Super Eagles assistant coach said, “The Under-23 team have not really played well in the competition. They showed a little improvement in their last match where they didn’t concede any goal but they will need to do more against Senegal.

“The match will be very tough for the two sides because of the Olympic ticket is at stake.”

Meanwhile, Senegal defender, Adama Mbengue, believes the home fans can help get them to the Under-23 title.

“We have a good team and we’re working hard to win the tournament because Senegal has never won an Africa Cup of Nations title,” he told cafonline.com.
