The Chairman of Kano Pillars Football Club, Kabiru Baita, has said that the team would use their participation in the 2015 Copa Lagos Beach Soccer tournament as a part of preparations for the 2015/16 Nigerian league season.
Baita said on Monday, “The competition will afford our team the opportunity to test their popularity among the Lagos football fans and equally prepare the team for the 2015/16 season.”
Pillars, three times Nigeria Premier League champions, will compete at the forthcoming Beach Soccer Club Challenge with Barcelona, Shooting Stars and Pepsi Football Academy.
The captain and longest-serving goalkeeper of the club, Theophilus Afelokhai, believes that the Copa Lagos challenge against Barcelona and the other teams would be a learning curve and experience gained for the players as beach soccer is relatively new in Nigeria.
He said, “The players will have a new orientation and exposure to new techniques in football.”
Copa Lagos, Nigeria’s highly entertaining international beach soccer festival, will hold this year at the Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island. It is scheduled to hold from December 18 to 20, 2015.
