Rand Merchant Bank
As part of its commitment to the development of education in the country, Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) Nigeria has renovated the science laboratories of Aunty Ayo Girls Grammer School, Ikoyi, Lagos. The bank said the initiative was part of effort to support financial inclusion in Nigeria.
Speaking at the official handing over of the science laboratories to the management of the school, the Chief Executive Officer, RMB Nigeria, Mr. Michael Larbie, said giving back to the society is very important aspect of the bank's corporate social responsibility. He said his financial institution is passionate about educational development.
He added: "Our parent company donates quite a lot to education in South Africa and across Southern Africa and that is something we want to continue to do in the countries that we operate in. So, I think being able to support laboratory renovation, is good for supporting girl-child education and also science in general. So, we think investing in science and education is very good for our young and upcoming kids.
"What we want to do is to make sure what we are doing here works. So we would continue to provide equipment and continue to monitor. Certainly, we would look at other schools, but we want to make sure this project is working at this school. It is not just about donating the equipment and running away, we want to make sure that it works. Every quarter, we are going to follow up on the management of the school and we would buy materials for them to use to teach the kids."
